I spent two weeks in Regina in November of 2010 working with dancer/performance artist Robin Poitras and First Nations visual artist Edward Poitras on a project called Weekend in Alphaville. The idea was to reference two Godard films, Weekend and Alphaville, but to interpret them in a Saskatchewanian context. Because when I think of Godard, I always think of Saskatchewan! We shot a film in a freakishly early blizzard with 23 degree below temperatures. The two main performers, Robin Poitras and Ziyian Kwan, danced on a barren stretch of highway in the freezing cold, the fake blood congealing on their skimpy clothing. The film was then used as part of an installation at Neutral Ground Gallery, which included a live performance; the film was projected in split screen, one side running it forward and one side running it backward. The film has been screened at select galleries and festivals internationally.
